UC Irvine’s men’s soccer team dominated Stony Brook Sunday to the

tune of 3-0 to close out competition at the College Classic on the

UCI campus Monday.

The Anteaters (1-0-1) took the lead in the 24th minute on a Jesse

Peron goal with Chris Ruiz and Scott Bowman credited with an assist.

Lerato Simeland scored twice in the second half to wrap it up with

assists from Chris Klotz and Dardo Acuna.

Goalie Cameron Rossi was credited with three saves in gaining the

shutout.

The Anteaters were forced to settle for a 1-1 tie with

Alabama-Birmingham Saturday after Flavio Monteiro booted in an

unassisted goal in the 86th minute of regulation to offset an Anthon

Vizcarra goal in the 72nd minute.

Two overtime periods failed to snap the stalemate, leaving both

0-0-1 after the season opener.

UCI outshot Alabama-Birmingham, 15-8, but could not convert.

Rossi had two saves, while Alabama-Birmingham goalie Clint

Baumstark was credited with eight saves.

* In a college women’s game at Vanguard University, the Lions

Khara Stoneback’s left side cross set up the first goal and the

other two were unassisted. Avila’s goal came from 37 yards out with a
