Let Davis’ add to house

I think what Greta and Scott Davis are doing for children with

disabilities is wonderful (“Building blocks,” Wednesday). They have

opened up their home and hearts to these children and provided them

with a loving environment. They care for them, love them, educate

them and now they are trying to build more space for themselves and

the children. They are willing to adopt these children when probably

no one else would. What an amazing couple these people are.

So I ask the question: Why would anyone oppose them? As we have

learned, it’s their neighbors who don’t understand what it’s like to

raise a child with a disability. There are thousands of children in

our society with cerebral palsy, autism and Down’s Syndrome, and

these children are a lot of work. I should know since I am a parent

of two children with a disability. We have had our share of uphill

battles with our children, but that is typical for a family with

disabilities.

Therefore, I think the Davis’ neighbors, as well as all neighbors,

should be a little more understanding and helpful when it comes to

parents of children with disabilities. Maybe they should spend one

day with the Davis family and see the work it takes to raise this

type of family.

We are all trying our best to make a better life for our children

when they encounter many obstacles in life. The last thing this

family should face is some neighbor who doesn’t have a heart. Let

them build their addition.
