Lawrence & Ponder Ideaworks of Newport Beach welcomed Kerry

Wurzelbacher of Corona del Mar into a newly created position of vice

president of client services in July. Wurzelbacher will supervise

both the public sector and the private industry account teams in

addition to heading up the agency’s new business acquisition

efforts.... Paula Davey was appointed to director of client services

for The Peterson Group last month. Davey will be responsible for

managing the production of all client services from conceptualization

to development, she will interface directly with clients and will

oversee the company’s expansion plans for 2002-03. She joined the

Newport Beach-based marketing communications agency after working as

vice president of client services for Mueller International in

Irvine.... Many Newport-Mesa residents walked away from the 2002

Orange County Fair with awards and ribbons for their achievements in

many different categories of competition. Karen Schwandt, 12, of

Costa Mesa, won Best of Show in the 4-H resource science geology

category for her project that explained how rocks form. Costa Mesa

resident Geneviere Rheaume was division winner for her beef jerky and

Sandra Silerio, also of Costa Mesa, was division winner for her

flavored cheesecake. Toria Frisbie, of Newport Coast, was division

winner for her theme-related jumping frogs and Newport Beach resident

Allison Hochwald’s goat was named Grand Champion Market Goat. The

fair ended on July 28....Navy hospitalman Sheena M. Dietz, daughter

of Kathleen R. Dietz of Costa Mesa, recently graduated from the Basic

Hospital Corps School. She received the required education to work in

several different areas of medicine. Dietz, a 1996 Newport Harbor

High School graduate, completed the 14-week course that included

instruction in first aid and how to assist Navy doctors and nurses as

well as instruction in service in different medical environments like

fleet hospitals and shipboard medical departments to fleet Marine

forces and medical administration.... Nadine Andreen, of Costa Mesa,

received the Mayor’s Award on July 1 for her outstanding volunteer

efforts and years of service to the Mesa del Mar neighborhood.

Andreen has served as secretary of the Mesa del Mar Homeowners Assn.

and has contributed to the betterment of her neighborhood and the

city through various acts of community service ....Marine Corps Pfc.

James F. Lewis, of Newport Beach, recently completed the Basic Food

Service Course. Lewis, who joined the Marines in August 2001, learned

basic food preparation, management and food services as well as

nutrition, meat carving, menu planning, baking, kitchen health and

sanitation procedures.... Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute announced

that Newport Beach resident Allison Rawlins was selected as this

year’s recipient of the Rensselaer Medal. The award is given to

junior class high school students who have distinguished themselves

in mathematics and science. Rawlins, a student at Newport Harbor High

School, will receive a scholarship of $40,000, payable in four yearly

awards of $10,000 each.
