Blazers win first two games in tournament
Led by Nick Freeman’s three goals and Scott Thomsen’s two goals,
the Corona del Mar Blazers boys soccer team stormed to a 2-0 record
in the Costa Mesa 2002 McMillan Plus Soccer Tourney at the Farm
Complex.
The boys 13-and-under team shutout Costa Mesa, 2-0, as Johnny
Heard assisted Freeman for the first goal in the first quarter
followed in the third quarter by Thomsen’s goal on assists from
Michael Bear and Andy Rovzar.
Blazer defenders helped record the shutout and included Brett
Bartlett, Steven Hassman, Kevin Kottke, Riley Sullivan, Michael Page
and Andy Morrow at goalie.
CdM beat San Clemente 4-2 in Game 2, scoring two fourth-quarter
goals to put San Clemente away. Rovzar made it 3-2 with his breakaway
goal, and Freeman put the game out of reach with his second goal of
the game to make it, 4-2.
Freeman and Thomsen scored CdM’s first two goals in the contest.
CdM High varsity soccer players Blake Dillion, Jeritt Thayer and
Howard Lee contributed in the Blazers’ win over San Clemente.
