Fall of the House of Huscroft

Since Costa Mesa City Council members have made the decision not

to move the Huscroft House from its TeWinkle Park perch to Fairview

Park -- as was originally planned -- it’s time the council goes one

step further: finish it off.

The Huscroft House’s original roots are in Santa Ana, not Costa

Mesa, and, as such, it’s not really a part of Costa Mesa’s history

anyway. It, like some other homes, has been here since the mid-1950s.

While the idea of saving the historic home from the wrecking ball

and turning it into a museum was a novel idea, there are many more

novel ideas in this community that are worth the effort and money.

So, the council should make its final decision, put the house out

to bid again and accept the best bid, even if there’s only one.

Or, if there aren’t any, bring on the wrecking ball.
