UCI rallies for win over SDSU

SAN DIEGO --The UC Irvine women’s volleyball team overcame a 2-0

deficit in games and defeated nonconference host San Diego State,

22-30, 26-30, 30-22, 30-26, 15-13, Tuesday.

The Anteaters (3-2) rallied behind double-doubles from senior

outside hitter Chanda McLeod (23 kills, 10 digs) and sophomore

outside hitter Kelly Wing (19 kills, 11 digs) to take the five-game

victory.

Libero Brenda Waterman came up with a team-high 13 digs for Irvine

and sophomore outside hitter Dana Kurzbard contributed 11 kills to

the Anteater offense.

Sophomore setter Ashlie Hain rounded out the double-figure dig

totals with 10 and recorded 61 set assists in the win.

SDSU was led by Rochelle Currier and Zlatina Anguelova, who both

had 20 kills apiece, while adding 16 and 11 digs, respectively. The

Aztecs fell to 3-4 with the loss.

UCI continues action this week at the Falcon Invitational, hosted

by Air Force in Colorado Springs, Colo.
