Newport-Mesa firms donate time, services

Ritner & Nelson Architects of Newport Beach, along with three

other Orange County architectural firms, are donating their time and

services to help construct eight homes for low-income families in the

cities of Stanton and Santa Ana, in Orange County.

In addition to the services donated by each architectural firm,

design professionals throughout Orange County have also joined in to

lend their expertise.

Geomatrix Consultants of Costa Mesa and Gouvis Engineering of

Newport Beach were just two of the design firms to help with the work

on the homes that are currently under construction.

All of the firms that have donated time are working with Habitat

for Humanity of Orange County, an organization dedicated to ending

substandard housing and building strong communities.

The organization was established in 1988 and has built 90 homes in

Orange County. Habitat is currently constructing four homes in

Stanton and four in Santa Ana and has begun fundraising for 11 new

homes to be built.

Sutton Place earns excellence awards

The Sutton Place Hotel in Newport Beach recently became the

recipient of “The Hospitality Member of the Year Award for 2001-02”

and the Gold Key Award from Meetings & Conventions Magazine for the

fourth time.

The hotel received the member of the year award from the Newport

Beach Conference & Visitors Bureau for its commitment to assisting

the bureau with its various needs in any way possible. A certificate

of appreciation was presented to the hotel as a recognition for its

outstanding support and contributions over the last year.

The hotel also received the Gold Key Award for its consistent

excellence in serving the meeting industry. With its

Mediterranean-style architecture, 435 guestrooms, a full-service

business center, Panache Club floor, award-winning dining and banquet

facilities, corporate and association meeting planners who

participated in the magazine’s survey chose the hotel for the fourth

time in a row.

Newport architectural firm celebrates 10 years

Robbins Jorgensen Christopher, an architectural firm in Newport

Beach, celebrated its 10th anniversary in July.

The firm, which includes three architects, James Robbins, Roberta

Jorgensen and Janene Christopher, provides full-service architecture

that encompasses work from planning and design to program management.

Having worked on a variety of projects ranging from sports

facilities and public administration building to historical

renovations and university campus planning, the firm has been able to

establish such clients as the U.S. Postal Service, U.S. Navy, Orange

County Fire Authority, City of Los Angeles, John Wayne Airport and

California State Polytechnic University Pomona.

The firm now includes three offices, 35 employees and 273 projects

with construction value exceeding $160 million.

Bellport to manage Marina del Rey

BellPort Group of Newport Beach will oversee management of the

Marina del Rey marinas in the Los Angeles Harbor, one of the largest

marinas in the harbor.

BellPort, the first professional marina management company to be

contracted with any of the marinas in that area, has been working on

establishing a contract with the Marina Harbor for the last three

years.

The marina has more than 6,000 recreational boat slips and 100,000

boat ramp users annually.
