OCC women defeat Irvine Valley in golf

IRVINE -- The Orange Coast College women’s golf team defeated host

Irvine Valley, 355-369, in an Orange Empire Conference match Monday

at Oak Creek Golf Club (par 72).

Irvine Valley’s Nora Garabotti won medalist honors with an 81,

while OCC’s Joanne Durocher (87), Gina Watkins (88), Laura Sumpter

(89) and Marilyn Pope (91) scored for the Pirates (3-2, 3-1 in the

OEC). They play host Golden West on Wednesday at Meadowlark Golf

Course in Huntington Beach.

* In high school girls tennis Monday, host Marina topped Costa

Mesa, 15-3, in a nonleague match. Mesa’s No. 1 doubles team of Chi

Doan and Minh-Thy Pham, both seniors, won two of three sets and

improved to 5-1 this year. The Mustangs (1-1) travel to Ocean View

today for a Golden West League match.
