OCC rallies to win in five
Freshman outside hitter Melissa Zapiain recorded a match-high 22
kills and added seven digs to help the Orange Coast College women’s
volleyball team rally for a 33-35, 22-30, 33-31, 30-16, 15-8
nonconference win over visiting Palomar Wednesday.
OCC (2-0) bounced back after dropping the first two games and
after Coach Chuck Cutenese provided motivation.
“The two things that were pretty obvious to me in the first two
games was that we were not playing in our system and we looked
nervous,” Cutenese said. “I said to the girls, this was a great win
for you. To be down two and to win in five against a good team was
huge for us.”
The Comets earned match point at 31-30, but a blocking error tied
the game. OCC’s Jessica Lippi came up with a dig and the Bucs won the
point after a hitting error.
