Army Reserve Pfc. Frank D. Soto,...

Army Reserve Pfc. Frank D. Soto, grandson of Marta Gloudeman of

Huntington Beach and a 1998 graduate of Marina High School, has

graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army

mission and received instruction and practice in drill and ceremony,

marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading,

field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, physical

fitness, basic first aid, and Army history, tradition and core

values, and special training in human relations .... Army Sgt. 1st

Class Troy J. Guimond son of Loretta J. Guimond of Huntington Beach,

has been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal. The medal is

awarded to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who distinguish

themselves by either outstanding achievement or meritorious service

to the United States in noncombat situations .... Melissa Moulton, a

Cal State Long Beach student from Huntington Beach was one of 14

students who spent eight weeks studying in Florence, Italy over the

summer. Students chose courses from Italian language, art history,

Italian Cinema, European literature and contemporary Europe ....
