Actress makes deal to avoid domestic abuse charges

Actress Tawny Kitaen-Finley volunteered to go through anger

management counseling instead of entering a plea to charges stemming

from her alleged physical fight with her estranged husband, former

Angels pitcher Chuck Finley, her attorney said Thursday.

Kitaen-Finley, 41, who appeared before Orange County Superior

Court Judge Pamela Iles on Wednesday, entered into a resolution with

the court to go through counseling for a year, after which the judge

will most likely dismiss the charges, attorney Blair Berk said.

“[Kitaen-Finley] is extremely pleased with what has happened,” she

said. “The judge treated it like any other case. In this case, there

was an allegation in the midst of a rather heated divorce matter. The

court treated her like anyone else. There was no special

consideration.”

The actress was charged with corporal injury on a spouse and

battery after Newport Beach police arrested her the night of April 2

at the couple’s Newport Coast home. Chuck Finley reportedly told

police that his wife scratched, beat and kicked him with her

high-heeled shoes when they were driving back home from dinner that

night. Finley filed for divorce two days after the alleged fight.

Berk said Kitaen-Finley will honor a restraining order that her

husband has against her. However, she is free to visit their two

children and live in Finley’s Newport Coast home, Berk added.

Kitaen-Finley is not required to make any further court appearances,

but Berk said she will update the judge on her client’s progress

every 90 days.

Person uninjured after Newport bridge fall

One person was uninjured after falling into the water off the

Arches Bridge Thursday afternoon, Newport Beach police said.

“It happens all the time,” said Newport Beach Police Sgt. Fred

Heinecke. “Kids are usually fooling around that place and somebody

ends up falling in the water.”

Police initially thought it was a jumper, but later learned it was

an accidental fall and not a deliberate attempt to jump off the

bridge, he said.
