Ficus debate splits like trees’ roots

Share via

Fabulous letter (Sounding Board, “Don’t remove ficus trees;

install new pipes,” Sept. 8). I would like to help; it was very

informative. I want to participate and help to save the trees. It is

unfortunate that so many healthy, majestic ficus trees would fall

victim of a dispute concerning the timing of the appropriate

paperwork. How sad. This case should be decided on its own merits.

I very much agree with the judge’s decision, not only on behalf of

the city, but because homeowners that are plagued by neighbors having

ficus trees that interfere with their sewers and their cement are

also going to get, possibly, some legal relief. Also, for those that

want to save the trees, I suggest that they remove them and plant

them in their own yards and preferably not next to their neighbor.

Yes, we do support that decision and we live down on the peninsula

of Balboa.
