JUMPING FOR JOY

The Laguna Playhouse will continue to show “Jumping for Joy,” a

new play by Jon Marans, author of “Old Wicked Songs,” which was a

finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1996. Directed by

Richard Stein, the joyous games of childhood are relived by a man who

has been beckoned home by his sister and father. The show will run

COAST CINEMAS

The Laguna South Coast Cinemas will present “Sordid Lives,” a film

about a family in a small Texas town preparing for the funeral of the

The Marion Meyer Contemporary Art Gallery will open a collection

Pacific Edge Gallery will host an artist reception celebrating a

collection of work by Brenda Bredvik from 6 to 9 p.m. This will be

Bredvik’s first solo exhibition of new figurative and abstract

SOUTH COAST MEDICAL CENTER VOLLEYBALL CHALLENGE

The student volunteers at South Coast Medical Center will host a

beach Volleyball Challenge and Barbecue from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at

Doheny Beach State Park in Dana Point. All level of players, at most

any age, from high school-aged to seniors are invited to participate.

Participants can sign up as six man/woman teams or as a single player

to be placed on a team. The tournament will be held near Picnic Area

#7. The cost to participate is $10/person. All proceeds will benefit

cancer services at the hospital. Pre-registration and registration

CALIFORNIA COASTAL CLEAN-UP DAY

The California Coastal Commission (CCC) will host the 18th annual

California Coastal Cleanup Day from 9 a.m. to noon. Clean Water Now!

Coalition will also host an enviro fair from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The

cleanups will take place at Main Beach, Crescent Beach, Oak Street

Beach and Treasure Island/Victoria Beach. Participants need to sign

TOWNA NEIGHBORHOOD PICNIC

The Top of the World Neighborhood Assn. will hold its annual

Neighborhood Picnic from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Alta Laguna Park.

Neighbors will be bringing their favorite dish to participate in an

old fashion pot luck dinner. Serious discussion will include the

TOWNA Board’s concern about the heightened fire hazard the

neighborhood is now facing. With all the cigarette butts in the

mini-park and Laguna Heights open space, neighbors will be asked to

be especially vigilant, and to call the Police Department’s

non-emergency number 497-0701 to request increased patrols and

enforcement to cite violators of the City ordinance prohibiting

The Laguna Art Museum will host “Reflections on the Art and Life

of Rick Griffin” as part of its Real Life in the Coastal Zone: Surf

Culture Lecture series. This slide discussion, moderated by Gordon

guitarist Paul Johnson (of the Belairs), celebrity portrait

photographer Bob Seidermann and contemporary artist Robert Williams.

Johnston. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase paintings

created for the event by college faculty and baskets by silent
