Gensler Architecture, Design & Planning Worldwide named Darla

Callahan, a Gensler vice president since 2000, managing director of

the Newport Beach office earlier this month. Callahan is a member of

Gensler’s Firm-wide Global Accounts Taskforce, the Workplace and

Strategic Alliance Taskforces and of the Newport Beach Steering

Committee. Gensler is a leading architecture and interior design firm

....Kevin Bowes, district manager of Vector Marketing Corporations in

Costa Mesa, recently reached his $2-million career sales milestone.

Bowes joined the company as a sales representative in 1998 and was

quickly promoted to field sales manager. This is his second career

sales award. Vector presents Milestone Award plaques to managers that

attain million-dollar career sales milestones signifying their sales

accomplishments and achievements ....Matthew Benvenuti of Newport

Beach was one of a 12-member team that spent two weeks teaching

conversational English to Polish teens during the summer. Benvenuti

and his grandmother, Terry Lowery of Lakewood, Colo., were part of

the Global Volunteers program, which offers volunteer

service-learning opportunities in 19 countries ....Navy Petty Officer

3rd Class Thorin D. Mayba, of Costa Mesa, recently departed on a

six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf as

part of Operation Enduring Freedom. Mayba, a 1989 Estancia High

graduate, is currently aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, which is

one of the many carriers deployed throughout the world to serve as a

highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and is equipped with

the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available

....Many Newport-Mesa residents left the 2002 Orange County Fair as

recipients of a variety of awards. Ralph McCowan of Costa Mesa won

first place for creating the most patriotic hat. Other Costa Mesa

winners included: Helen Volde, 13, for her halter-top sun dress;

Wendy Borack for her paper mache sculpture; Lee Jeffries for most

original hat; Laura Keller, 13, for her themed flower arrangement;

Vanessa Vosburg, 11, for her boysenberry jam; Martha Blake for her

black and white photograph; Marcia Weatherholt Bernhardt for her oil

painting; Dave Gardner for his lighthouse collection; Stephanie

Miranda, 18, for her happy face collection; Bob White for his

woodcarving; and Bob Zigler for the opening ceremony grand prize. The

Corona del Mar winners included: Karen Luchesi for her black and

white photograph and Eva Fergoda for her crocheted and lacework

articles.
