A 3-0 halftime lead quickly ballooned to four unanswered

second-half goals as the Costa Mesa Boys Under-14 APP team met Corona

del Mar in pool play.

Costa Mesa received goals from Kenneth Zich, Jose Perez, on an

assist from Rigo Miranda, who scored in the second half on an assist

from Trevor McDonald, who also scored when he headed a rebound off of

Corona del Mar’s goalkeeper, German Higadera on a cross from Luis

Cozza and Blake Pinto.

Corona del Mar didn’t allow any fourth-quarter goals.

Shutting down the CdM offense were Mesa defenders Caleb Burgess,

Zich, Ben Abbott, Adam Seagondollar and Cozza as the offense was led

by forwards Herman Higadera, Perez, Luis Zelaya and Austin Evett.

Midfield support came from Pinto, Alberto Nava, Marco Soto,

McDonald and Miranda.

In girls under-14 action:

* Strikers 3, Newport team 1

Led by goals from Chantel O’Toole and Karyn Kay (both their first

goals of the season) followed by Carina Merida’s score, the Strikers

continued their winning ways Saturday.

Strong midfield play was provided by Aubrey Brown, Emily Leece and

Briana Delfin.

In girls under-12 play:

* Girls in Black 2, Blue Crush 0

Striker Mariah Bailey and forward Alex Payzant each scored

second-half goals and goalkeeper Amy Ramirez recorded a shutout to

lead the Girls in Black to victory.

Sweeper Teresa Fox led the defensive effort with help from

fullbacks Michelle Eastman, Rebecca Alward, Diana Gutierrez and

Nicole Apted as Abby Scheaffer, Alexa Aguilar and Stephanie Fox

supported the offense.

Kelsey Coleman and Tatiana Bush controlled the midfield.

* The Poison Ivy broke a 2-2 halftime tie with two second-half

goals from Jenna Tanner giving them the win over the Orange Crush.

Rachel Golden and Megan Kipp each scored Poison Ivy goals in the

first half before Orange Crush tied it.

Midfielders Madison McCarthy, Kelsi Bauermeister, Lindsey Atwood

and Karen Villalba kept the pressure on and assisted forwards Tanner,

Golden and Breanna Arellano.

The Poison Ivy defense didn’t allow any first-quarter goals led by

Gabriella Chavez, Tiffany Choi and Breana Dorame.

In boys under-12 action:

* Purple Raptors 2, Yellow Simpsons 0

The Purple Raptors rallied to win their first game of the season

as forward Chris Rossi scored both Raptor goals.

Rossi scored in the second quarter on an assist from midfielder

David Fink and again in the third quarter on an assist from

midfielder Jarad Crowley.

Peter Anastos and Mike McKenna also played forward for the Raptors

with support by midfielders Brian Arnesen and John Cazort.

Crisco Elliott, Connor Bannan and Bret Weinberger split time in

goal for the Raptors and got defensive help from Hunter Lewis, Jon

Kiani and Alex Ludlow to keep the Simpsons scoreless.

In boys under-8 play:

* The White Lightning received strong play from the entire team

against the Blue Knights at Costa Mesa High.

Chad Fackler scored five goals and had several assists while

playing in three quarters as Robert Sullivan had four goals and

played steady defense with George Becerra contributing three goals

and Colin Moran scoring for the first time this year.

Drew Benham, Zac Riedle, Matt Thomas and Alan Giglio all played

strong defense, not allowing a score.

* Flames 4, Blue Lightning 1

The Flames scored two quick goals and then netted the first

third-quarter goal on their way to the win.

The Blue Lightning’s Daniel Cabrera scored their one goal as the

offense was led by Michael Cordova, Nicholas Meldrum and Francisco

Macedo.

The defense was anchored by Isaac Dela Mora, Erick Alverez,

Malcolm Williams, Adam Ditt and Nicholas Halloran.

In girls under-8 play:

* USA Girls 5, Rockin’ Raspberries 1

Led by four goals from Kayla Vogt, the USA Girls claimed the

victory.

Vogt scored her two first-half goals with help from Lauren Delfin

and Diana Place as the defense was led by Lulu McKnight, Kellie

Thorsness and Eden Abild with help from Sheidy Rios in the second

quarter.

Delfin scored her first goal in the second quarter as Hannah Jones

played steady in goal in the first half.

In boys under-6 action:

* The Stingers made a strong comeback in the fourth quarter to

beat the Flaming Tigers to capture their third win of the season.

The Stingers trailed by two goals until Benny Blowers scored seven

goals as Rommel Durini scored two goals for the Stingers.

Draven Tolentino and Charlie Griffen made assists as Michael

McClanahan and Zak Agzour played strong defense in goal. Stinger

player Christian Leon didn’t play this week.

* The Hoppers and DinoMasters dueled Saturday at Costa Mesa High

as the Hoppers’ Cody Nelson scored his first goal of the season after

the DinoMasters took the lead with a few breakaways.

Colin Williams, Sean Fisher, Christopher DeFrenza, Karl Donovan

and Cole Rowerdink controlled the ball as Cole Norris had several

breakaway efforts spoiled by DinoMasters’ defenders.

In girls under-6 play:

* The Blue Dolphins battled the Laker Girls Saturday.

Litlaly Gomez scored a goal for the Dolphins as Emily Russel, Lisa

Perlin and Olivia LeValley played solid defense. Madison Ongstad,

Azuncena Angulo and Hope Fox kept the ball in the offensive zone.
