The International Quilt Assn. has announced that Barbara Woodruff

of Laguna Beach is a finalist in the group’s annual judged show,

Quilts: A World of Beauty. Her work, Journey, was recognized in the

Art, Large category. Winners will be named Oct. 29 during the

Winner’s Circle Celebration in Houston.... Josh D. Shapiro was named

to the dean’s list of academic achievement in the spring semester at

Washington University College of Arts & Sciences in St. Louis. He is

a graduate of Laguna Beach High School. A Washington University

student must earn a grade-point average of 3.5 or better to qualify

for the dean’s list.... Laguna painter Brenda Bredvik will be

exhibiting her work at Pacific Edge Gallery and Wilde Meyer Gallery

in Scottsdale, Ariz. This is in addition to the McLean Gallery in

Malibu and the Los Angeles County Museum Gallery.... Marine Corps

Pvt. Catherine Christoph recently completed basic training at Marine

Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. She had 12 weeks of training

that included learning first aid, uniform regulations, combat water

survival and marksmanship. Christoph is the daughter of Nancy Haver

of Laguna Beach and Gary Christoph Columbia, Md. She is a 2000

graduate of Laguna Beach High School.
