UCI wins

UC Irvine won the Southern Sloop Elims on Newport Harbor Friday to

advanced to the Sloop Pacific Coast Championships today and Sunday in

Newport.

UCI skipper Barrett Sprout and crew Jordan Korss and Jon Boyd won

the regatta after logging three bullets in four races in three- to

six-knot winds inside Newport Bay. USC, finished second and UC San

Diego placed third to join the Anteaters at the Sloop PCC’s this

weekend.

The three will battle the Northern qualifiers (Cal, Stanford and

Cal Maritime Academy) and the University of Hawaii this weekend for

the right to compete at the ICSA Sloop Nationals Nov. 1-3 in Newport,

RI.
