Prepare to paint great pumpkins

Newport Beach’s third annual Halloween Window Painting Contest

will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at two local shopping centers.

The Newport North and Westcliff shopping centers will be the spots

this year where families and youth groups will paint windows with

spooky Halloween themes. The best paintings will get prizes.

To register, visit the city’s Recreation and Senior Services

Office at Newport Beach City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd. There will also

be registration on site the day of the contest. The Newport North

Shopping Center is at Bison Road and Macarthur Boulevard. The

Westcliff Shopping Center is at 17th Street and Irvine Avenue.

$30,000 raised to support film fest

An “Under the Skyy” fund-raiser put on by the Premiere Cinema

Guild, which supports the Newport Beach Film Festival, raised $30,000

and attracted 500 people Sept. 21 at the Sports Club in Irvine. The

third annual fund-raiser included a short films screening.
