Overpopulation the problem at Newport Harbor High

I think that maybe the problem is the population at Newport Harbor

and that they should be looking at all the inner-district transfers

(“Rallies are no place for parents,” Thursday).

There’s a large a number of kids that have transferred in from

Corona del Mar High School, from Costa Mesa High School, from

Estancia High School into Newport Harbor that are not in the zone,

and I think all those kids need to go back to their neighborhood

schools and that we should be looking at that problem first and not

focusing so much on this.

Dining event leaves

bad Taste in her ears

I’m sure that the Taste of Newport is a wonderful thing even

though I have never attended, but why oh why did the music have to be

so loud that we could hear it in Newport Heights (“Summing up and

looking forward to a new Taste,” Wednesday). I work near 17th and

Santa Ana streets in Costa Mesa and heard the music from there also.

I am sure there were many more complaints than mine. The organizers

should have more consideration for residents.

Flights need to

depart the skies

[Regarding planes flying over Costa Mesa on the way to Long Beach

Airport], I realize planes have to fly, but they are not at 4,000

feet. One time, at night -- I don’t know how many of them come by --

one came by and we could even see the “blue,” and you know who that

is.

I guess they have about 40 flights out of there or something now.

So all I care about is that they do not fly that low. I think it’s

very dangerous and also, in reading your article about flights over

the city, it seems like they don’t have to.

So, should the city take action now or later? I’d say now if we

have any rights to it, but I think all I’d care about is that they’re

4,000 feet up. I don’t know how they’re going to land when they get

over to Seal or Huntington Beach.

Balboa Pier renovation

lacks workmanship

I take a daily walk on the Balboa Peninsula everyday. The new

pier, the Balboa Pier, and all the blue and white concrete where they

have the palm trees planted right at the entrance of the pier is

already cracking apart.

It appears there has been substandard workmanship done there. .

Daily Pilot teen

columnist hits the mark

I read a wonderful column written by a young fellow called Michael

Walek in the Sept. 24 Pilot and I found it very profound and I think

he’s an incredible writer (Student Outlook, “Carve out your own niche

in life”). I just wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed that

article. .

Stop running the photo of Red Baron looking at the beach

I don’t care one way or another what happens with the Newport

Beach dog leash law (“Newport can tighten leash,” Sept. 5). It really

doesn’t affect me, but if I see one more picture of that dog sitting

on the windowsill overlooking Corona del Mar State Beach, I think I’m

going to croak.
