Knockouts score a knockout
Three goals by Debbie Yoder-Lee, two by Malorie McMains and one
goal by Carrie Cabanillas carried the Newport Beach Girls under-15
AYSO Region 97 soccer team to a 6-0 win over Sudden Death at Harper
School Sunday.
Goalkeeper Madison Urtusuastegui played solid as well.
In Girls under-12 action:
* Red Crush 8, Blue Crush 2
A scoring outburst by Kalya Henrie (four goals) and Valentina
Buonanoce (three goals) helped the Red Crush defeat the Blue Crush.
Henrie’s goals came in the first and second quarter with Buonanoce
scoring her goals in the third and fourth quarters.
Karla Navarette and Delanie Linden made accurate passes in the
third and fourth quarters as Charlotte Farrell also scored a goal for
the Blue Crush.
Goalkeeper Claire Layton played steady as Kaitlin Kehoe and Kelly
Clark showed strong hustle.
In Girls under-10 action:
* Teeny Wahinis 6, Parrot Heads 0
The Teeny Wahinis recorded their second shutout as Tori Sarris
scored a hat trick.
Forwards Chelsea Barth, Brittney Bastedo and Nicole Baker kept the
offense on the attack.
The defense was led by Hannah MacLeod, Bridget Lyons, Kate Donahue
and Jordan Eakin.
Midfielders Sarah Wilkey, Amy Kanontz and Sarris played strong
combinations of offense and defense.
* Blue Angels 4, Bratz 0
The Blue Angels remain undefeated on the season with a shut out
win.
Beth Barnard scored the first two goals of the game to put the
Angels out in front as Blakeley Ficenec and Josie Jogwe each scored
one goal apiece.
Allison Schelin and Madison Wooters played a steady midfield as
did Amanda Rogers and Alex Murphy.
* Blue Crush 4, Super Stars 2
Led by Madison Grant’s three goals, the Blue Crush defeated the
Super Stars.
Kiley Johnson scored one goal for the Blue Crush as Kelly Worden
scored both goals for the Super Stars.
Annie Bissell and Christie Ohlaver shared goaltending duties for
the Blue Crush.
* Teal Tigers 2, Killer Bees 0
Tough Tiger defense led by Kristi Drake and Kylee Pochirowski
helped keep the Killer Bees from scoring as the Tigers recorded the
shutout.
The Tigers received goals from Tabitha Goff, off an assist from
Sadye Busby, and Mary Yeager from Abby Michaelson’s assist.
Delaney Bell, Addison Richley and Makena Owen showed effective
ball control.
* Tsunamis 2, Breakers 1
Right wing Christina Young scored with three minutes remaining in
the game for the Breakers, but the Tsunamis came out with the win.
Young’s goal came from an assist by her twin sister, Robin Young,
who received a pass from Alise Larson.
Mindy Wheeler, Kellie Conant, Amber Eary and Madison Walsh were
key offensive players for the Breakers as solid defense was provided
by Gretchen Tingler, Ellen Landis, Taylor Dittoe and Annie Pyle.
Tatum Norton was injured in the fourth quarter.
In Girls under-8 action:
* The Bluewater Dolphins dueled the Pink Panthers, with Kristine
Sanders scoring for the Dolphins.
Assisting Sanders on offense were Page Keys, Konner Speth and
Samantha Small as Maddie Collins and Vanessa Sezenol aided the
Dolphins defensively.
Peri Howser, Kendall Kilmer and Elissia Schilling led the
Panther’s offensive attack as Hannah Walker led the Panthers on
defense.
* The Zooming Zebras were led by Cathryn Boetner, with an assist
from Taylor Powers, as Sally Fuller, Catherine Connelly and Sarah
Daly made strong passes.
Hanna Mumm and Nicole Fitzsimmons also played solidly.
In Girls under-8 action:
* Madison Lanting scored three goals for the Blue Crush as Avery
Warwick scored one goal.
Carolyn Bockrath provided encouragement to her teammates.
