Golden West fashion show takes center stage

Whether you’re a fashion maven or just a supporter of education,

Golden West College will offer a dazzling high-class event just up

your runway on Saturday. The college’s 10th annual Patrons Fashion

Show and Fund-raiser will offer a showing of the latest styles and

help raise scholarship money for students.

Clothing, on loan from various boutiques in Fountain Valley,

Huntington Beach, Huntington Harbour, Seal Beach and Westminster,

will be on display, said Marie McHerrin, college spokeswoman.

There will also be a silent auction with chances to bid on tickets

to the Aquarium of the Pacific, two passes to the Disneyland Resort

and for a tour of the Huntington Beach Police Department and lunch

hosted by Police Chief Ron Lowenberg.

All funds raised will go to various Golden West scholarships to

benefit incoming students, and students currently enrolled in the

school. The event raised about $10,000 last year and school officials

hope to raise the same amount this year, McHerrin said.

The fashion show and silent auction will be held Saturday at the

Hilton Water Beach Resort. The silent auction will begin at 10:30

a.m. and will be followed by the luncheon and fashion show at 11:30

a.m.

Tables of 10 cost $400 and the per-plate cost is $40. A portion of

the cost is tax deductible.

Pegasus Padres

meeting tonight

Fathers at the Pegasus School will meet to talk about their

children’s education at a fathers-only event tonight from 6 to 8 p.m.

at the Center Club in Costa Mesa.

The Padres of Pegasus School is a father only social organization

that was started at the private school in Huntington Beach four years

ago, said Roger Schnapp, the group’s co-founder and president.

“The idea is for fathers to get to know each other,” Schnapp said.

“The fathers like the idea of something they can get involved in that

is just a father thing.”

Fathers often have a tough time making it to school functions,

Schnapp said, so the group allows them to become involved while

meeting other fathers.

The fact that there is no hidden agenda to the group also entices

fathers. They don’t fix up the school on weekends or help raise

money, Schnapp said.

Margaret Kohlbeck at (714) 964-1224.
