Two days, two rollover accidents
Two rollovers, both involving people suspected of driving under
the influence, were reported in Newport-Mesa during the weekend.
A Huntington Beach man was arrested for driving under the
influence after his Ford Expedition hit a light standard, flipped
over and hit and injured a pedestrian Friday.
Newport Beach police said Gregory Smith, 23, collided with the
light structure on Pacific Coast Highway just east of Balboa
Boulevard at 10:20 p.m. Friday. His car hit 52-year-old Thong
Chuenjit of Laguna Hills, police said. Chuenjit was taken to Hoag
Hospital and later released.
Smith was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana and treated
for abrasions and possible internal injuries. Hospital officials
declined Saturday to release his condition.
A two-car collision caused a car to roll over in Costa Mesa at
4:48 p.m. Saturday. The accident occurred at the intersection of 19th
Street and Placentia Avenue.
Police confirmed reports of a trapped driver who was removed and
taken to Western Medical Center. One of the drivers is suspected of
being under the influence, police said.
