Looking back, 10 years ago this week:

* CdM freshmen beat Back Bay rival Newport Harbor, 13-0, in

football. CdM scores first, after Josh Walz returns a punt 25 yards

to the Newport 40. Walz quickly engineers a drive that puts the Sea

Kings into the end zone in the second quarter with help from running

back Scott Shimer. On the first play from scrimmage after the ensuing

kickoff, Kevin Smart recovers a fumble on a quarterback sack to set

the Sea Kings up on the Newport 23. On third-and-4 on the Newport 5

six plays later, Walz lobs a pass grabbed by a leaping Parker

McDonald in the end zone. Newport puts together its best drive

spanning the last two minutes of the third quarter and first three

minutes of the fourth as quarterback Justin Giordani connects with

Lucas Goring on third down as Newport eventually reaches the CdM 28

on a 21-yard pass from Giordani to Sky Conway. Justin Mandel’s sack

forces a fumble recovered by Tim Goode on the Corona 28.
