A clutch stop by the Newport Mesa Jr. Midget Seahawks

(11-13-year-olds) on fourth down at the Carson Colts’ 45-yard line

with only three seconds left allowed the Seahawk offense another

chance to win the All-American Football game and the Seahawks came

through.

Quarterback Taylor Sepulveda launched a deep pass to Jacob

Gildart, who broke two tackles on his way to the game-winning 45-yard

touchdown reception as time expired in the Seahawks’ 20-14 win over

the Colts in a rematch of last season’s Super Bowl.

The Colts tied it at 14 in the second half when a Carson player

picked up a fumble and ran 98 yards for the touchdown after the

Seahawks marched 80 yards behind the running of Robbie Lusk and Matt

Garza and pass plays from Sepulveda to Brett Houten.

The Seahawks’ Jacob Taylor and Matt Lutton each sacked the

quarterback three times.

Eric Rask, Chas Vickery III, Richie Sorenson, Brice Stillman,

Steven Dean and Will Brown held Carson to minimal second-half yardage

on the ground.

The offensive crew of Kevin Morgenstern, Bryce Jardine, Justine

Elbourn, Corbin McNutt and Jonathon Howse opened holes for Gildart,

who had more than 100 yards rushing and scored the Seahawks’ first

touchdown.

The Colts tied the game in the second quarter, but key receptions

by Jamie McGee helped the Seahawks to a 14-6 halftime lead.

* In Pee Wee (ages 10-12) action:

Seahawks 30, Compton Titans 7

The Pee Wee Seahawks improved to 4-1, as the quarterback duo of

Jordan Lusk and Matt Barkley combined for four touchdowns to

receivers Max Steigler and Robbie Boyer.

The quarterbacks also received solid protection from linemen Scott

Lineback, Steven Deverian, Scott Simon, David Kideshian and James

McKennon.

Linebackers Woody Yokoyama, Garrett Amoroso and Patrick Marin-Finn

crushed the Compton running backs. Defensive ends Brandon Davis and

Brett Hannrahan kept Compton’s quick backs from getting to the

outside, while defensive linemen Kevin Lineback, Travis Prickett,

Nick Svenson and James Volaire combined to win the battle in the

trenches.

With the running game shut down, Compton went to the air. However,

cornerbacks Scott Chene, Carlo Valdez and Kyle Johnson were up to the

task, allowing only two completions.

“This is a great group of kids,” said Coach Mike Molinero, who has

no children of his own on the team. “I love them like they’re my

own.”

* Also ..... The Junior Pee Wee Seahawks (ages 9-11) lost to the

to the Norwalk-Sante Fe Springs Saints, 12-0. The Junior Clinic

Seahawks (ages 7-8) lost to the South Bay Packers, 27-6.
