Mad Dogs overcome by The Heat
Lewis Gifford and Tyler Geery each posted four goals in the Wales
Division championship game, their combined eight goals proving to be
instrumental as The Heat downed the Mad Dogs, 10-6, to claim the
division title during a busy Championship Week of action at Coast 2
Coast Inline Hockey Center in Huntington Beach.
Max Devries and Rebecca Kippel closed out The Heat’s scoring
attack with one goal apiece.
The Mad Dogs’ scoring consisted of two goals each by Joshua Fisher
and Kyle Evans, and one goal apiece by Dylan Thompkins and Kelan
Stuart.
In other division finals:
Smythe Division
Thunder 4, Sharks 2
The Thunder jumped out to a 4-0 lead through two periods of play,
then held off a late Sharks rally to claim the title.
Dylan Dongrid netted two goals, Jared Neely scored once with an
assist, Jacob Gonzales scored once, Kyle Martins picked up a pair of
assists and Brian Massrey had one assist for the Thunder.
David Marabella came up with 23 saves.
Conor Murphy and Brandon Mohl both scored, Zachery Jones scored
once and Brett Shaver had 22 saves to lead the Sharks.
PeeWee Club Division
Assassins 8, Team Dirt 2
Jared Yonekura scored twice and had one assist to pace a balanced
Assassins attack.
Matthew Kleinhans scored two goals, Joshua Hackworth and Taylor
Apostol each had a goal and assist, and Brock Dowis added an assist.
For Team Dirt, Kevin Lachman scored, Mike Burkhardt had an assist
and Ryan Turchi recorded 24 saves.
Atom Gold Division
Rink Rats 12, HB Xtreme 2
The Rink Rats rolled from the start, grabbing a 10-2 lead after
two periods and never were threatened.
John Sacco led the way with four goals and an assist. Garrett
Blackwell scored twice and had an assist, Dylan Miller had two goals
and assisted three other goals, Connor Cal Lathrope scored once and
had two assists, Colby Rios scored once with an assist, Joshua Gane
scored once and Luke Loggins had an assist to complete the attack.
Jared Neely had 16 saves in goal.
HB Xtreme’s scoring consisted of goals by Kyle Merrick and Blake
Miller and an assist by Travis Beckman.
Atom Silver Division
OC Blades Cub 7, Sharks 5
James Andrews scored the first three goals for OC Blades Cub and
ended the match with a match-best five goals.
Matthew O’Donnell scored once and had one assist, Troy Loggins
scored once, Christian Wever and Ethan Loy each had an assist and
Andrew Mendoza had 25 saves for the OC Blades Cub.
Dallas Heyden and Kyle Martins each scored twice to lead the
Sharks, Zachary Beko scored once, Zach Dickson had two assists and
Timothy Francis finished with 25 saves for the Sharks.
