Lightning unbeaten in five
The Lightning, a girls’ Under-17 Division Silver soccer team,
stretched their unbeaten streak to five games with a pair of ties.
The Lightning first fought the Laguna Hills Storm to a 2-2 tie,
then the Irvine Lasers to a 1-1 tie.
In the Laguna Hills game, Janet Peterson scored both Lightning
goals and Megan Bell recorded one assist.
Against Irvine, Peterson picked up an assist, feeding Caitlin
McGinnis for the Lightning’s lone goal.
Gena Johnson came up with 18 total saves in the two matches as the
Lightning ran their record to 4-1-2.

Ice Breakers 5, Blue Thunder 1
Tommy Vollum scored his first goal of the season as the undefeated
Ice Breakers recorded the victory at Perry School.
Matthew Steinhaus paced the Ice Breakers with a pair of goals and
single scores went to Trevor Verone and Michael Rowe, who scored off
Steinhaus’ corner kick.
Verone also served double duty, working in goal. He had one key
save in the third period to keep the Blue Thunder at bay.
Defenders Matthew Bordas and Gavin Perdomo, and mid-fielders
Garrett Hickman, Mitchell Phillipy and Cole Souza all gave strong
performances.
Hickman, Perdomo and Phillipy rotated with Verone in goal.
