GARDEN CLUB

Steve Kawaratani, Coastline Pilot gardening columnist and owner of

Landscapes by Laguna Nursery, will speak about growing roses in the

coastal climate at the Laguna Beach Garden Club meeting, starting at

9:30 a.m. at the Neighborhood Congregational Church, 340 St. Ann’s

Drive. A club member will demonstrate floral arrangements with roses.

ALL-STAR YOUTH BASKETBALL TRY-OUTS

The Laguna Beach All-Net/NJB basketball teams for boys and girls

in sixth through eighth grades at 6 p.m. Oct. 13. The try-outs will

take place at the Laguna Beach High School Dugger Gym, 625 Park Ave.

COUNCIL CANDIDATE FORUM

The Laguna Beach Seniors will sponsor a council candidates forum

at 12:30 p.m. in the upstairs room at the VFW Legion Hall, 384 Legion

St. Questions will be taken from the audience, and there will be time

to get acquainted with the seniors’ special guests. Light

refreshments will be served by Laguna Beach Seniors, Inc.

COFFEE BREAK

The Laguna Beach PTA Council Parent Education Committee will hold

a session titled “Getting Out of the Spin Cycle: Getting Children to

Mind.” Sandy McDaniel, columnist for the Orange County Register and

author of “Recipes for Parenting,” will examine and demonstrate

emotionally and physically safe ways to discipline and work with

children. Check-in will start at 8 a.m. and the talk will begin at

8:30 a.m. at the Surf and Sand Hotel, 1555 S. Coast Highway.

The Laguna Beach Chapter of Surfrider Foundation will hold their

The Laguna Beach Parking Traffic and Circulation Committee will

host Rick Cole, the city manager of Azusa. Cole will speak and answer

questions about the livable cities movement and its relationship to

YOGA RETREAT
