Corona del Mar bounces back

Corona del Mar High’s girls tennis team improved to 8-2, 3-1 in

the Pacific Coast League with a methodical 17-1 victory over Calvary

Chapel of Santa Ana Tuesday on the Costa Mesa Tennis Club courts.

The Sea Kings, who host Northridge on Thursday, bounced back from

their stunning 10-8 loss to University on Thursday with the

anticipated rout.

PACIFIC COAST LEAGUE

CdM 17, Calvary Chapel 1

Singles -- Holland (CdM) def. LaLlande, 6-0; Minna (for

Holland) def. Vicoria, 6-4, def. Lundquist, 6-2; Snyder (CdM) won,

6-0, 6-0, 6-0; Rubenstein (CdM) won, 6-0, 6-1, 6-0.

Doubles -- Steele-Yelsey (CdM) def. Kays-Fichenmuller,

6-2; def. E. Rann-Hahn, 6-2; def. N. Rann-Hill, 6-0; Manning-Carnaham

(CdM) won, 7-5, 6-2, 6-1; Way-Souzzi (CdM) won, 6-4, 6-2, lost, 5-7.

SEA VIEW LEAGUE

Sailors tumble, 12-6

The Newport Harbor High doubles duo of sisters Bonnie Adams and

Carly Adams won all three sets against fourth-ranked Woodbridge, but

the Sailors still dropped a Sea View League girls tennis match to the

Warriors, 12-6, Tuesday at Woodbridge High.

Woodbridge’s No. 1 singles player, Elizabeth Exon, lost only one

game, to Newport’s Vanessa Dunlap, en route to sweeping her three

sets. Dunlap and Newport’s No. 2 singles player Krista McIntosh each

took one set and the Sailors No. 1 doubles team of A.J. Olson and

Diana Khoury also won one set.

“The Adams sisters did a great job, and Krista McIntosh was down

in a tiebreaker but won a match and that was good,” said Newport

Coach Fletcher Olson in the aftermath.

The Sailors, ranked No. 10 in CIF Division I, are now 7-4, 3-1 in

league.

The Sailors travel to face University today at 3 p.m.

Woodbridge 12, Newport Harbor 6

Singles -- Kay (NH) lost to Exon, 0-6; lost to

Williams, 1-6; lost to Call, 0-6; McIntosh (NH) lost, 0-6, won, 7-6,

(7-5), lost, 3-6; Dunlap (NH) lost, 1-6, 4-6, won, 6-1.

Doubles -- Olson-Khoury (NH) lost to Reeves-Thompson,

4-6; lost to Hustedt-Rye, 1-6; def. Call-C. Hustedt, 6-2; B. Adams-C.

Adams (NH) won, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4; Sturgess-McKay (NH) lost, 2-6, 3-6,

3-6.

GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

Eages fly right, 12-6

Estancia High senior Kelly Trettin swept in singles and a pair of

Eagles doubles teams also won three sets to key a 12-6 Golden West League girls tennis victory over visiting Saddleback Tuesday.

Asia Ingram and Yvonne Zaidleer, as well as the tandem of Kittiya

Sudhikam and Huong Thai posted doubles sweeps for the Eagles (7-5,

7-2 in league), who will attempt to avenge a first-round league

defeat when they host Santa Ana Thursday.

Saddleback is now 1-8 in league.

GOLDEN WEST LEAGUE

Estancia 12, Saddleback 6 Singles -- Curran (E) lost to Bell, 1-6, lost to

Troung, 5-7, def. Diep, 6-1; Trettin (E) won, 6-2, 6-3, 6-0; Postel

(E) lost, 0-6, 4-6, 5-7.

Doubles -- Sudhikam-Thai (E) def. Nguy-Voung, 6-4, def.

Nugen-Bernal, 6-2, def. Mazanegos-Luvano, 6-1; H. Morton-M. Morton

(E) lost, 5-7, won, 6-0, won, 6-1; Ingram-Zaidler (E) won, 7-5, 6-1,

Sage Hill tunes up

Sage Hill High’s girls tennis team swept past visiting Whitney

Tuesday en route to a 16-2 Academy League victory as the Lightning

girds for Thursday’s league showdown at St. Margaret’s, where the

latter awaits with a 10-0 record.

The Lightning, behind the singles sweeps of freshmen Katie

McKitterick, Kellie Ammerman and Paige Fullmer, improved to 9-2, 7-1

in the Academy League.
