The National Charity League’s Ticktockers -- daughters of the

members -- will assemble today at the Costa Mesa Community Center for

the annual Ticktocker Philanthropy Faire to box and bag various items

ranging from school uniforms to food to send to several local

charities.

The event, open only to Ticktockers, has been put together by the

Newport chapter of the organization for several years, spokeswoman

Pam Moore said.

“Our goal is to show the girls that there is potential and

strength in numbers,” she said.

Moore said the girls, who are in grades seven through 12, will box

150 uniform shirts for students at the Shalimar Learning Center, 400

hygiene kits for the Someone Cares soup kitchen, Friends in Services

to Humanity, Share Our Selves, Serving People in Need and the

Newport-Mesa Interfaith Shelter. They will also put together 50

birthday kits for Orangewood Children’s Home and Canyon Acres,

shelters for abused or neglected children.

The event also aims to encourage charitable activities by

fostering the mother-daughter relationship, Moore said.

“[Members] and Ticktocker groups organized this event to initiate

and encourage charitable endeavors and it fosters the mother-daughter

relationship in a philanthropic organization committed to community

service,” she said.
