The Orange Coast College women’s golf team stormed the competition

in a four-team Orange Empire Conference match hosted by Fullerton at

the Alta Vista Country Club Wednesday.

The Pirates (5-4, 4-3 in the OEC), who entered the match fourth in

the conference, tallied a 366 team score to defeat two of the top

teams in the OEC, Golden West and Irvine Valley, which scored 368 and

372, respectively.

Fullerton, also lost to OCC, finishing with a 463.

Marilyn Pope led the Pirates’ winning effort, shooting 84 on the

par-72 course, while Laura Supter (90), Gina Watkins (91) and Joanne

Durocher (101) also contributed.

“It was a great effort today,” OCC Coach Barry Wallace said of his

squad. “Even my two gals, whose scores did not count, played well.

Diane Valoff and Becky Fisher played their best rounds, shooting 110

each. Becky has never played golf before this season.”

Fullerton’s Nora Gariotti earned medalist honors (80).
