Golden West thanks alumni donors

The Golden West College Foundation at a ceremony Tuesday honored

donors and alumni who have given $25,000 or more.

A plaque thanking donors has been attached to a concrete pillar on

campus as part of the Alumni Pillars of Achievement ceremony. The

pillars represent persons who serve as role models for students.

Among those recognized this year were Norma Jeanne Nisco, a nurse

who graduated from the Golden West Nursing program and retired from

Fountain Valley Regional Medical Center after 20 years of service.

Huntington Beach Hospital was also honored for its work with the

college in helping to improve the range of medical services that it

provides.

Barry and Madeline Cohen were also honored for their contributions

to the college’s police academy. Graduates Mark D. Apodoca, Georgina

Dodge, John Louis and Lydia Kay Stevens were recognized during the

ceremony.

High school foundation raises $12,000

The Huntington Beach Union High School District Foundation raised

more than $12,000 at its third annual fund-raising brunch held Sunday

at the Waterfront Hilton.

The Fountain Valley High School Marching Band, along with dancers

and singers from the Huntington Beach High School Academy for the

Performing Arts, Edison High School Jazz Ensemble and student

artists, entertained those in attendance.

The brunch was hosted by the Huntington Beach Union High School

District Education Enrichment Foundation. Corporate sponsors of the

event included Rainbow Disposal and Aera Energy.

Proceeds from the event will benefit students through teacher

grants in technology and arts education.
