Newport Harbor rides to fourth straight win
Newport Harbor High’s club surfing team ran its record to 4-0
Thursday morning at the 56th Street site with an 82-44 victory over
Santa Margarita.
In sweeping fashion, Newport won every event, taking all four
short board heats, as well as the long board, body board and girls
short/long board competition.
Senior Geoff Rill won his fourth straight short board event in
3-4-foot waves under ideal conditions.
Other short board heat winners from Newport Harbor were Rill,
Erica Hoesseini, Brightton Brandenburger and Nathan Stoneman. Bronson
Hovnanian and Brian Anderson got seconds.
It was Hoesseini’s second victory competing in the boys division.
Freshmen Brett Catron and Chase Smith went 1-2 in the long board,
and seniors Jason Green and Mike Beck went 1-2 in the body board.
In the nonscoring girls event, Newport Harbor senior Amy Lowry was
the winner, maintaining at least a second in four straight meets.
