Costa Mesa wins, 4-0

Four goals by four different players helped the Costa Mesa Boys

under-15 APP soccer team down Yorba Linda, 4-0, in an AYSO Region 120

soccer game.

Juan Perez, Jordan Kalke, Jay Benny Quiroz and Nick Juarez each

scored one goal and Shawn Engmann and Ernesto Castadena had assists

for Costa Mesa, now 5-1-1.

Goalkeeper Matt Pisarski made two saves.

In Boys under-14 APP play:

* Costa Mesa beat San Juan Capistrano and Laguna Niguel in pool

play games.

In the first game, Rigo Miranda had a hat trick, scoring his third

goal on a pass from Trevor McDonald.

Mesa’s German Higadera broke the tie with a header on a cross from

Blake Pinto and Miranda scored his second and third goals of the game

after that.

San Juan struck first with a goal, but then Marco Soto found the

net for Mesa on a pass from Alberto Nava to tie and Mesa later tied

on a Miranda cross to Luis Cozza.

In the second game, Costa Mesa opened it up with three unanswered

goals in the fourth period.

Cozza scored on a corner from Miranda followed by a Luis Zelaya

goal and minutes later Miranda found the net unassisted.

After a Laguna Niguel score, Herman Higadera, who finished with

two goals for Mesa, scored the game’s final goal.

Cozza also finished with two goals and Soto had a goal and an

assist in the first half.

In Boys under-12 play:

* Sharks 6, Firebirds 4

The Firebirds battled the Sharks all game as Sergio Agustin scored

his first goal of the season and Robert Rutan matched up strong

against the Sharks.

Adam Gardner, Marc DeFrenza, Jordan Straubel and Nicholas

Desidario worked well together crossing the ball and forcing the

Sharks defense to re-position themselves.

Eric Cushing, Ruben Rubio, Alex Suarez and Omar Gambio protected

goalkeeper Michael Liedtke.

* Spitfire 3, Firebirds 1

Both teams struggled to put the ball in the net in the early

going, but the Spitfire was able to pull out the win on some

second-half breakaway goals.

The Firebirds had early success in holding the Spitfire from the

midfield play of Rubio and Arnold Hernandez.

DeFrenza scored the Firebirds only goal from 18 yards out over the

goalkeeper’s outstretched arms.

In Boys under-8 action:

* Tidal Waves 4, Wildcats 3

A last-minute goal by Ben Beck gave the Tidal Waves the win in a

hard-fought contest.

The Tidal Waves led early and each Wave goal was answered by a

Wildcat goal until the fourth Wave goal late in the game.

Tidal Wave defenders Ryan Adkisson, Arnold Barrera, Scottie

Fuentes and Andy Tran stopped Wildcat scoring chances and goalkeepers

Michael Quezada and Michael Eastman made key saves on Wildcat shots.

Tidal Wave forwards Beck, Garrett Prather and Brad Wilson scored

goals.

* Blue Lightning 4, Knights 2

Two goals by Nick Meldrum and single goals from Daniel Cabrera and

Francisco Macedo led the Blue Lightning to the win.

The Knights tied the game, 1-1 and 2-2, before Macedo chipped the

ball into the goal for a 3-2 Blue Lightning lead and after a

scoreless third quarter, Cabrera scored his goal to give the

Lightning some breathing room.

Isaac Dela Mora, Erick Alvarez and Adam Ditt anchored the

Lightning offense while Malcolm Williams, Michael Cordova, Meldrum,

Macedo, Cabrera and Nicholas Halloran contributed to the offensive

charge.

In Girls under-8 play:

* USA Girls 6, Firecrackers 0

After a scoreless first quarter, the USA Girls got the scoring

streak going and shut out the Firecrackers.

Kayla Vogt scored twice in third and fourth quarters and Lauren

Delfin and Lulu Meeks added goals with help on offense from Lauren

Delfin and Kellie Thorsness.

Eden Abild and Hannah Jones played solid defense and Diana Place

and Sbeidy Rios helped out on offense and defense.

In Girls under-6 action:

* Litlaly Gomez scored three goals and Olivia LeValley added

another goal for the Blue Dolphins against the Mint Juleps Saturday.

Emily Russel and Lisa Perlin kicked and blocked the ball and

Madison Ongstad and Azuncena Angulo hustled the entire game. Hope Fox

moved the ball toward the goal.
