Newport knocks off Wolverines
Natalie Draganza took medalist honors with a 44 for the victorious
Newport Harbor High girls golf team in a Sea View League match
Thursday against Aliso Niguel won by the Sailors, 254-287, on the
par-36 front nine at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach.
Amanda Campbell fired a 49, Kayleigh Horn shot a 51, Rachel Kone
shot 52 and Ashley Jacobs shot 58 for the Sailors, 6-2, 4-1 in
league. Newport is tied with Woodbridge for first in league, said
Newport Coach Marianne Towersey.
Stephanie Kim tallied a 48 to lead the Wolverines.
Mesa drops match
The Costa Mesa High’s girls golf team dropped its second Golden
West League match Thursday to Ocean View, which sits atop the league
with a 6-0 league record.
Ocean View shot 261 to Mesa’s 298 on the par-36 front nine at
Meadowlark Golf Course in Huntington Beach.
The Mustangs’ Jean You and Ocean View’s Chelsea Maras shared
medalist honors with a pair of 48s. Also scoring for Mesa were
Jessica Bunnel (54), Rachel Hughes (63), Jacklyn Adams (66) and
Christian Casale (68).
“It was a tough course and the girls were unfamiliar with it,”
said Costa Mesa Coach Todd Kolber. “Ocean View has one of the
strongest teams in the league.”
