7th win gives Laguna title
Laguna Beach’s Eighth-Grade All-Net boys’ basketball team put the
finishing touches on an unbeaten fall league season last Sunday by
edging Team Temecula, 38-33, in a hotly-contested showdown between
two undefeated teams at Edison High.
The victory gave Laguna Beach a 7-0 record and the Green East
Conference title, denying tall and athletic Team Temecula (6-1) that
honor.
“The Fall League is designed to get the kids ready for competitive
Winter League play,” Laguna Beach Coach Brett Fleming said. “It gives
the kids the opportunity to play games, rather than just practice.
“I thought the kids played well and gained some game experience.”
Laguna Beach’s Eighth-Grade All-Net team is comprised of starters
Bobby Monroe, Brian Delano, Ian Butters, Ty Fleming and Chris Hyden,
plus Nathan Pickett, Patrick Curran and newcomer Brennan Healey.
The eight-member Green East Conference consisted of teams from
Laguna Beach, Temecula, Whittier, Newport Mesa, South Coast, Tustin,
Niguel Aliso and Villa Park.
