Tars edge Los Al in overtime
Newport Harbor High’s boys water polo team rallied for four goals
in the fourth quarter to tie Los Alamitos and scored twice in the
second overtime period Saturday as the host Sailors defeated the
Griffins, 10-9, in nonleague action.
Jay Thompson, who scored three goals for the Tars in sharing
team-high honors with Michael Bury, and Clay Jorth (two goals) scored
in the second overtime for Newport Harbor, ranked No. 5 in Orange
County. Nathan Weiner and Ross Sinclair scored one goal each for the
winners.
In goal, Michael Robinson collected six saves for the Sailors,
including one in each overtime period. Los Alamitos scored three
goals each in the first and second quarters to take a 6-3 halftime
edge.
