* TRAFFIC:

“If you look at resident surveys, people think congestion is a

problem, but they don’t want roads widened ....We have to figure out

how to better manage traffic.”

* REVITALIZATION:

“We’re basically built out. I think that the issue now in front of

us is how to revitalize areas that need it on an environmentally

sound basis. I think the General Plan update process is the key to

doing the will of the people, and I think the city has done a good

job of getting resident input.”

* POLITICKING:

“I think that some people who are talking about development are

being a little misleading ....From January to Dec. 31, 2001, there

were only 81 more residential units added to the city, not counting

Newport Coast, and only 22,715 square feet of commercial [property]

was added ....Most of the development wasn’t even approved by Newport

Beach, but years ago by the county, etc.”

* RETURNING TO GOVERNMENT:

“I’ve always been active in giving back to the community in

different ways. Being on the City Council is a way to do that.”
