A balanced attack in the air and the ground and a stifling defense

contributed to the Newport-Mesa Jr. Midget Seahawks blanking the Long

Beach Poly Wildcats, 34-0.

Newport’s defense contributed to the scoring after defensive end

Brett Houten stripped the ball loose from a Long Beach player and the

Seahawks ran the ball in for the touchdown.

The blitzing defense was led by Chas Vickery III, Will Brown,

Steven Dean, Brice Stillman and Matt Lutton.

Newport’s offense was equally strong with quarterback Houten

running into the end zone on a bootleg for the final score.

Taylor Sepulveda played quarterback earlier in the game and hit

Jamie McGee with a TD toss and fullback Ben Buttolph punched the ball

in for another TD behind an offensive line of Corbin McNutt, Bryce

Jardin, Richie Sorenson and Frankie Russo. Sepulveda had two TD

passes called back on penalties.

Robbie Lusk also contributed on the ground.

The Seahawk defense held the Rams scoreless in the second half,

remaining, to hold off the Rams and win by two points.

The Seahawks trailed 12-7 but responded with a touchdown. Mark

Contreras ran one in from 13 yards out and Parker Norton hit Reid

Wallace for the extra point.

The Seahawk defense was led by Contreras, Norton, Buzzy Yokoyama,

(interception), Cody Peters and Adam Akil.

Norton hit Ryan Iverson on a 65-yard TD pass on the Seahawks’

first possession. Newport received strong offensive-line play from

and Kyle Orton.

The Seahawks finish at home Saturday against the Carson Colts.
