Costa Mesa United breezes to 3-1 victory over South Irvine

Jimmy Bueno scored two goals and Mike Wolfe netted one, as the duo

helped lead Costa Mesa United to a 3-1 victory over South Irvine in

boys under-16 action in AYSO Region 120 play. Wolfe scored the first

goal to give his team a 1-0 lead. Bueno, Jon Secrest and Edgar Amador

maintained the lead with consistent passing. Goalie Zack Shockley led

the Mesa defense, while Chris Ray supported.

In Girls Under-14 action:

* Twisted Chaos 3, Blue Crush 2

After Jaye Hellmich sent a booming kick that covered half of the

field, forward Samantha Strodel gathered it and took it all the way

to net the game-winner for Twisted Chaos in the fourth quarter.

Jessica Reynolds finished a cross from Annel Alvarey to score the

first goal of the game for Twisted Chaos. Blue Crush tied it up in

the second quarter, but then Twisted Chaos halfback Sarah Barr booted

in her first career goal to give her team a 2-1 halftime lead.

Fullbacks Victoria Farrow, Gina Gonzalez, Rachael Depersis and Sara

Fassett led the Twisted Chaos defense, which held Blue Crush

scoreless in the third quarter.

* Costa Mesa Strikers defeated Newport

Carina Merida scored a goal in the first 45 seconds to help lead

the Strikers to victory. In addition to Merida, Emily Swedelson also

scored goals. Emily Leece scored from 40 yards out and a had a header

for an assist to Chantel O’Toole. The Striker defense, which has

allowed just four goals this season, was led by goalie Ashton

Henderson, along with Julia Jaroslawski, Kyra Molter, Mayra Roman and

Justine and Briana Delfin.

In Girls Under-12 action:

* The Scarlet played a spirited game against the Panthers at the

TeWinkle fields. Sabra Tellez scored for the Scarlet Raiders after

taking a pass from Hannah Speer. Amanda Watson fired several shots

for the Scarlet Raiders, while midfielders Brennan McVeigh and Tracey

Peterka contributed solid defense. Scarlet Raider goalies Melinda

Kennedy and MacKenzie Roman combined to allow just one goal, which

came from a well-placed penalty kick.

In Girls Under-6 action:

* Citlaly Gomez scored a hat trick and her teammate Lisa Perlin

netted one for the Blue Dolphins in their game against the Dolphins.

Olivia LeValley and Azucena Angulo played heavy defense, managing to

kick the ball out of play against the Dolphins. Hope Fox also

contributed to the Blue Dolphins’ effort with her constant hustle.
