Local men’s tennis team fourth

With seven of its 11-man roster being players from Huntington

Beach, the men’s team representing Southern California Section

finished in fourth place in its flight division at last weekend’s USA

League Tennis 4.0 Senior National Championships held in Tucson, Ariz.

Led by captain Robin Garthwaite, William Heck, Joseph Sappia, Ray

Schilling, Peter Vanderhyden, Dick Straten and Dennis Sobczak -- all

from Huntington Beach -- helped guide the Southern California team to

one win against two losses in team play, and a 3-6 mark in individual

play.

The winning team from each flight advanced to the tournament’s

semifinal round.
