Sowers’ girls down Dwyer

Sowers Middle School took on rival Dwyer in girls’ basketball

action last weekend and at both the seventh- and eighth-grade levels.

Sowers’ eighth-grade girls’ remained unbeaten this season, with a

30-11 victory.

Audra Tamulaitus matched 11 points with 11 rebounds, and Lindsey

Baker added eight points and eight rebounds to pace the Lady Vikings,

who are now 2-0. They have won their last 10 games spanning to last

season.

Sowers shares first place in the league standings with Costa Mesa

Middle School.

In the seventh-grade showdown, Sowers (1-1) handed previously

undefeated Dwyer its first loss, 34-15.

Sixth-grader Kelly Peterson and seventh-grader Leslie De Jesus led

all scorers with eight points each. Bree Williston, a two-year

starter, contributed four points, five steals and five rebounds.

Thunder wins fourth straight

Pegasus School of Huntington Beach ran its record to 4-0 in the

season Monday by doubling up on Orange Christian, 26-13, in youth

flag football action.

Running back Nick Frazier scored on a 2-yard run and also on a

60-yard kickoff return, and quarterback Braden Ross scored on a

20-yard run.

The Thunder defense came up with three interceptions with Ben

Frazier returning one 50 yards for a touchdown.

In girls’ volleyball, Pegasus improved to 2-0 with a 15-8, 13-15,

15-8 victory over Orange Christian.

Kristina Sidrack came up with five straight aces in both the first

and third games, Christina Schwartz led the Thunder with five kills

overall, Hayley Young and Jessica Brostek keyed the defense and the

Thunder got a strong performance from setter Miranda Young.

Volleyball tryouts

The Surf City Volleyball Club will hold tryouts for boys’ junior

volleyball players Sunday at the Golden West College gymnasium.

Tryout times for the following grade levels are as follows:

Grades 6-8 -- 3 to 5 p.m.

Grades 9-10 -- 5 to 7 p.m.

Grades 11-12 -- 7 to 9 p.m.

There are open spots to be filled at all levels of competition.
