HARMAN ON:
* EDUCATION:
Insure adequate funding is provided to local schools by the state.
I support increased pay for teachers. Demand accountability from the
school administrators, teachers, students and yes, the parents too.
* STATE BUDGET CRISIS:
The primary cause of the budget crisis is over spending. We simply
need to cut back on the many wasteful spending programs that have
been approved by the legislature and the governor. Spending by the
state has increased 37% in the last three years while inflation has
been held to a level of 2 to 3% per year. Concerning local
governments, a guaranteed source of revenue should be provided by the
state. The state should not use local governments to balance its
budget.
* WATER QUALITY:
Fund and implement plans to control urban run-off. Follow through
with the sanitation district’s plan to go to full secondary treatment
of sewage.
* BIGGEST ISSUE IN THIS ASSEMBLY RACE:
Do the residents of the 67th Assembly District want a “tax and
spend” Democrat or a fiscally conservative Republican who supports no
tax increases and less government spending.
