Mesa View claims title
Behind first-place finishes by its eighth-grade girls’ and
seventh-grade boys’ teams, Mesa View Middle School won Ocean View
School District’s seventh-eighth grade overall title in the
district’s cross country championship event.
It is the second consecutive district championship for the school.
The Eagles’ eighth-grade girls’ team followed up an undefeated
regular season by winning the division in the district meet.
Kristin Thuve won the race. This is the third straight year she
has claimed the district crown. Teammate Brianna Littrell ran her
best time of the season to finish a close second to Thuve. Mesa
View’s Caprice Thompson was fifth, Desiree Escarcida was 11th, and
Kendall Luther placed 12th.
The Eagle’s seventh-grade boys’ team, also unbeaten during regular
season action, won the division title by placing five runners in the
top 10.
Leading the way was Josh Smith in fifth place, followed by Adrian
Watkins in sixth and Greg Baca in eighth. Jason Sullivan was ninth,
and John Hohng finished 10th overall.
Mesa View’s eighth-grade boys’ team, the defending district
champion, finished second in this year’s meet. Ted Hennes was Mesa’s
top finisher, in second place, and Ryan Shillito and Chris Hurtado
each garnered top 10 finishes by placing fifth and seventh,
respectively.
With Katie Welch placing second and Rami Masters right behind her
in third, Mesa View finished in second place in the seventh-grade
girls’ meet. Kelly Patrick gave the Eagles their third top 10
finisher with a 10th-place run.
