Newport bounces Laguna

Newport Harbor High’s unbeaten club surfing team swept to its

fifth straight victory Wednesday morning with a 66-60 decision over

Laguna Beach at the 56th Street site.

With the surf in the 3- 4-foot range and conditions ideal, senior

Geoff Rill racked up his fifth straight win in the short board. Also

a winner in the short board was senior Will Anderson, winning for the

third time this season . David Neira placed second in a heat.

Senior Alex Knost and freshman Bret Catron went 1-2 in the long

board, and senior Dan Krestschmar and junior Justin Kast went 1-2 in

the body board. It was Kretschmar’s third win of the season.

Newport duels Los Alamitos at 6:15 a.m. Monday at Anderson Street

in Seal Beach.
