UCI falls to Gauchos, 3-1

SANTA BARBARA -- The UC Irvine women’s soccer team lost its second

straight Big West Conference game after host UC Santa Barbara scored

a 3-1 victory Friday night.

UCI junior Hayley McNallan scored her sixth goal of the season at

the 38:39 mark to tie it up, but Alma Martinez of UCSB followed just

three minutes later with a goal to give the Gauchos a lead they would

not relinquish. Jennifer Borchich scored the clinching goal in the

80th minute.

The Anteaters (6-8-1, 3-2-1 in the Big West Conference) are at Cal

Poly San Luis Obispo on Sunday. UCSB improved to 11-3-2, 4-0-1.
