Coast women blank Gauchos, 6-0
The Orange Coast College women’s soccer team scored three goals in
the first 20 minutes and cruised to a 6-0 victory over Saddleback in
an Orange Empire Conference game at OCC Tuesday.
Coast (15-1-2, 11-1-1 in the OEC) got two goals from Fernanda
Velasco and one goal apiece from Jaycee Mahler (two assists), Lauren
Cassity (one assist), Vanessa Rocha (one assist) and Melissa
Mangrello.
Nikki Saenz and Bianka Gratzer tallied one assist apiece for
Coast, who scored four of its six goals in the first half.
The Pirates travel to host Fullerton Tuesday at 3 p.m.
Men: Bucs and Lazers tie again
COSTA MESA -- For the second time this season, the Orange Coast
College men’s soccer team has tied Irvine Valley, this time, 1-1, at
OCC Tuesday in an Orange Empire Conference game.
The two teams finished in a scoreless tie when they met Oct. 4 in
Irvine.
The Pirates (13-3-3, 6-1-3 in the OEC), ranked 11th, got a goal from Miguel Ochoa, who received an errant free kick and booted the
ball into the net from 25 yards out to equalize the Lazers’ Vishtasp
Farhadi’s unassisted goal scored five minutes earlier.
Coast goalkeeper Hilario Arriaga made the initial save on a shot
by Dave Didlake, but could not turn away Farhadi’s shot.
The Lazers had a pair of players sent off with 17 minutes and six
minutes remaining, but Coast couldn’t take advantage.
