The beauty of supporting breast cancer research

International model Elizabeth Hurley joined Orange Coast women for

a very special day of beauty at Nordstrom, South Coast Plaza. Hurley,

who represents the Estee Lauder Company, was joined by Evelyn H.

Lauder, the senior corporate vice president of the cosmetics firm,

who also has earned a reputation as an acclaimed photographer.

The gathering in Costa Mesa was billed as “An Eye for Beauty,” and

featured an exhibit of the photographs of Lauder. Her work is

included in the collections of The Brooklyn Museum of Art, The

Whitney Museum of American Art and many esteemed private collections

worldwide, including those of Elton John, Donna Karan and Richard

Meier.

The event however, was not simply about beauty. The Newport-Mesa

community was invited to brunch to support breast cancer research

through the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, of which Evelyn Lauder

is the founder and chairwoman. She is also the financial and the

emotional patron, supporting the Evelyn H. Lauder Breast Center at

New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital and the Rena Rowan

Breast Center at The University of Pennsylvania Medical Center.

“The Breast Cancer Research Foundation is the first and the

largest national organization dedicated solely to clinical and

genetic research in breast cancer,” said Denice Mock, one of the

Newport-Mesa women supporting the event. Mock, also president of The

Sophisticates, came to support Lauder and Hurley.

The Nordstrom gathering attracted a host of Orange Coast beauties,

including Adrienne Brennen, Lana Chandler, Kathleen Duffy, Penny Fox,

Eve Kornyei, Debbie Newmeyer, Nancy Olson, Mary Pon and the

fabulously svelte Harriet Sandhu.

Also on hand were Nili Stevens and the radiant Deborah Mars,

recently engaged to a local physician. Mars and her beau are planning

a winter wedding in San Francisco that will be a traditional Chinese

nuptial feast. The event will undoubtedly be the talk of the town

when Mars applies her considerable design talent to the affair.
