Goals aplenty for Hot Lava

Steady defense and opportunistic scoring led the Hot Lava Boys

under-14 AYSO Region 57 soccer team to its first shutout of the

season.

The Hot Lava scored four goals in the first half by George Logan

(Matt Rhodes assist) Geoffrey Grant (Jared Rivera-Ashley with the

assist), Chris Wallace (assist by Logan) and David Grant headed a

pass to Andrew Hawkins for the Lava’s final goal.

Andrew Martinez controlled the midfield and Ricky Lobel and Nick

Booth shut down the wings. Nick Doud, Spencer Singh and Kyle Tomlin

secured the midfield to secure the win.

In Boys under-12 action:

* Vipers 3, Green Grenades 2

Blake Thomsen’s second goal of the game proved the game-winner as

the Vipers nipped the Grenades.

Connor Morrill also scored with assists coming from Joe Ctvrtlik,

Scott Youngman, Tobi Isaksen, Billy MacDonald and Justin Ruffalo.

Ryan Delgado, Sam Perks and Spencer Bruno played steady defense.

* Purple Raptors 2, Red Fire Power 0

Goalkeeper Hunter Lewis was awarded the Player of the Game for his

performance in goal for the Raptors in the shutout.

Lewis made three saves in the third and fourth quarters to

preserve the victory. Connor Bannan and Chris Rosal scored goals in

the third and fourth quarters, respectively, with support from

midfielder Mike McKenna along with Peter Anastos, Jared Crowley,

Crisco Elliot, John Cazort and defenseman Bret Weinberger.

Strong defense in the first half was provided by David Fink, Alex

Ludlow, Jon Kiani and Brian Arnesen and goaltending by Bannon.

In Girls under-12 play:

* Patriots 1, Crazy California Cliffords 0

A.J. Rome scored the only goal for the Patriots in the fourth

quarter in a defensive battle with the Crazy California Cliffords.

The Patriots received solid defense from goalkeeper McKenna Caskey

and defenders Arianna and Alix Condon, Cali Conti and Casey Goldberg.

Cliffords’ goalie Bridget Fox made several saves and received

strong playmaking from Heather Van Hiel, Chelsea Giger and Blake

Gardner.

In Girls under-11 APP Plus play: * Corona del Mar Hotspurs 2, San Clemente 0

Corona del Mar improved to 5-2-1 on the season with the shutout.

Brooke DeMiranda and a penalty kick by Sydney Brombal were the

only two goals scored. Katie Deverian assisted on DeMiranda’s goal

and steady offense was provided by Haley Raguse, Maddie Simmonds and

Katie DeMiranda.

Strong midfield play was provided by Bayli Stefl, Kelly Feeley,

Hanna Stuart and Isa Taskinen and goalkeeper Sarah Folks and

defenders Laura Fleming, Nikki Flinn and Kyla Winkle handled the

backfield.

In Girls under-10 play:

* Purple Thunder 1, Blue Crush 0

Steady defense prevailed and the Coach Jeanne Almaraz of the

Purple Thunder treated her team to a scoop of ice cream following the

victory.

Stoppers on defense included Erin Almaraz, Lindsey Peters,

Christina Page and Kelly Cooper and goalkeepers Emily Tomei, Cooper

and Maddie Ludlow made several saves.

The Thunder scored early on a goal by McKenzie Dalton on an assist

from Catherine Keligian. MacKenzie Ludlow moved the ball down the

field ad Ludlow and Haley Carpenter each supported the offense.

In Boys under-10 play:

* Wolfpack 5, Broncos 2

Connor Gaal’s four goals led the Wolfpack to a win and Matt

English added a single goal. Zach Davis had two assists.

The defense was anchored by Brent Gray, Michael Drews and Iman

Josheghani.

* Gunners 2, Dragons 1

The win kept the Gunners in a tie for first place at 7-1 in the

Boys under-10 American Division.

Jack Nowak and Nick Gooding scored goals and controlled the

midfield and Spencer Christoff, Baron Brown and Brandon Rus led

several attacking runs.

Cameron Orr, Nathan Chisholm, Colin Beaver and Ryan Durazo

anchored the defense and Tanner Grandstaff and Emery Molnar made some

key saves to ensure the victory.

* Team USA 5, Silver Galaxy 1

Team USA jumped to a 3-0 lead on a pair of Mason Case goals and

another from Jack Gorab en route to a 5-1 victory over the Silver

Galaxy.

Blake Allen, Michael Dahl and Michael Ayzin tallied assists and

the defense played strong behind Matthew Larson, Ryan Gooding, Evan

Ehrenberg and Clark Cashion holding the Silver Galaxy scoreless

through two periods.

Late goals by Nicholas Molinaro and another by Case secured the

win.
