Seahawks fall to Cerritos

The Laguna Beach Seahawks grabbed an early lead last Saturday on

Cerritos in a Pop Warner Football contest but the Titans came up with

four key plays -- each by Ronnie Ellis, to break open a tight game en

route to a 24-6 victory.

On the Seahawks’ opening possession, quarterback Trevor Pierce

teamed with receiver Chris Hyden on a pair of first-down pass plays,

and Kameron Pearson ran sweep plays for big yardage as Laguna Beach

drove 66 yards downfield.

Pearson capped the drive with scoring honors on a two-yard run for

the game’s initial touchdown.

It didn’t take Cerritos long to respond. Ellis, a tailback, burst

his way for a 68-yard touchdown run to knot the score at 6-6.

The remainder of the opening half saw both teams reach mid-field,

yet neither could move into the red zone.

The tie was broken two minutes before halftime. Ellis scored his

second touchdown, this one coming on a 74-yard punt return to give

the Titans a 12-6 advantage.

In the third period, Laguna Beach linebacker Dillon Giaraffa came

up with an interception to thwart a Cerritos drive, and the Seahawk

offense used the turnover to mount a drive of its own.

The rushing of Pearson and the pass/catch combination of Pierce

and Hyden moved Laguna Beach deep into Cerritos territory. But Ellis

struck again, this time on a game-changing interception that he

returned for a touchdown that put the Titans up, 18-6, with three minutes to play.

Ellis wasn’t through. He returned his second interception of the

game moments later and put the game away.

The Seahawks played well despite the big plays turned in by Ellis.

Coach Roger Torriero named Pierce, Pearson and Hyden as the Seahawks’

offensive players of the game.

Pierce and Hyden teamed on seven pass plays and Pearson rushed for

85 yards.

Pierce and Giaraffa were Torriero’s selections for defensive

players of the game.
