Temple decision was well done

I don’t get it. In the article “Temple decision left bad blood,”

(Oct. 30), Newport Beach Councilman Steve Bromberg is quoted as

saying that some consider the Planning Commission approval of the

Mormon temple to have been a “tainted” process. Referring to the late

discovery that the steeple on the chapel adjacent to the proposed

temple site was shorter than previously reported, he further stated,

“We can’t know for sure whether city planners’ recommendation would

have been different if they knew that the steeple was only 68 feet

....” -- the inference here being that the commission somehow acted

without considering all of the relevant facts.

In fact, during the hearing, the lower chapel steeple height was

thoroughly discussed. A related “supplemental report to the Planning

Commission” from Oct. 3 also was presented, which concluded the

matter was not significant as it pertained to the project. After

eight hours of fair and comprehensive public hearings, an informed,

nearly unanimous decision was reached by the commission.

The process was not flawed. I say, job well done.
